Bill Townsend, 59, of Amarillo died Monday, July 2, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Jeff Messer officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Bill was born Feb. 13, 1953, in Durango, Colo., to Tom and Marea Townsend. He was a loving Christian father and grandfather, and he loved animals. He grew up in Shiprock, N.M., and Amarillo. He graduated from Tascosa High School and attended New Mexico Military Institute and West Texas A&M University.

He was a member of Rotary Club and a past member of Mavericks Boys Club board of directors and was Amarillo Advertising Federation’s Man of the Year. His careers included advertising, real estate investing, and he was the previous owner of Big Red Furniture. He was presently an agent for Mass. Mutual.

Survivors include a daughter, Angie Telford and husband Brett of Houston; a granddaughter, Keely Telford of Houston; four sisters, Lea Podzemny and husband Richard of Amarillo, Pam Coulter and husband Ron of Texline, Deborah Higgins and husband Mike of Amarillo and Hazel Wohlfahrt and husband Erhardt of Germany; Allyne Townsend and Valli Townsend, both of Amarillo; his nieces and nephews, Mandi Guffey, Jodi Coulter, Jeff Coulter, Micha Higgins, Denise Melon, Fritz Wohlfahrt, Marcus Wohlfahrt, Georgena Virga and Tommy Virga.

The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
