In Memory

Jon Wolfe

Jon "J.P." Wolfe, 57, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Llano Cemetery with Sheryl Brown, chaplain of Racers for Christ, officiating. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Jon was born Aug. 7, 1953, in Amarillo to Leroy P. and Patsy D. Wolfe. In 1971, he graduated from Tascosa High School.

In 1960, in the company of his uncles, Jon was there for the opening of the Amarillo Dragway. That was the beginning of his way of life.

An avid fan of drag racing, Jon has been affiliated with Amarillo Dragway in some way from 1970 until he and Leah purchased it in February of this year. A drag racer himself, he had won several NHRA awards and set some class records.

After 25 years of "dating," Jon and Leah were married on June 16, 2007, at First Christian Church.

When not at the track, Jon worked as a broadcast engineer for radio stations in Amarillo and the surrounding Panhandle area.

Although, taken from us too early, Jon was lucky enough to live his dream, surrounded by family and friends doing what he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Leah; three aunts, Helene McFarland of Plainview, Reba Watson of Hereford and Wilma Bell of Amarillo; and family members and dear friends too numerous to mention.

The family suggests memorials be to a benefit account for Jon and Leah Wolfe, in care of Amarillo National Bank.
