Funeral services for Mr. Max Roach, 59 of Long Branch, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the County Line Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Mr. Roach passed away December 14, 2012 in Tyler, Texas. Mr. Max Eugene Roach was born June 9, 1953 in Wichita, Kansas. He was one of four children born to the marriage of Charlie and Jane Yoakum Roach. Max attended and later graduated high school in Amarillo, Texas. He met and later married Lana Gail Gibbs on October 11, 1997 and together they spent 15 years. Mr. Roach was owner of Murvaul Painting and loved fishing and horse racing. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Cox. Mr. Roach is survived by his loving wife, Lana Roach of Long Branch; step-children, Ryan Barone and wife Emily of Austin, Dayton Barone of Ft. Worth; brothers, David Roach and wife Cheryl of Florida, Roger Roach and wife Kim of Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Ron Cox of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Tate Barone of Cleburne, Emma, Ava and Olivia Barone all of Granbury; other relatives and a host of friends.

I always liked Max.  His dry, cynical sense of humor matched up well with mine.  He sat next to me in Salkeld's home room every morning.  To think that he passed away in Tyler at the same time I am living here 42 years later is a crazy coincidence.  I'm sorry I didn't know he was in this area.
