Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Deckard and Dr. Larry Payne officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St.
Patsy was born March 24, 1953, in Hereford to Harold and Alice Rudd. She moved to Amarillo in 1969 at age 16. She graduated from Northwest Texas School of Nursing in 1974. Her nursing career began at Northwest Texas Hospital, where she worked for almost 22 years. In August 1995, she took a position as director of Nursing and Clinical Services at Amarillo Diagnostic Clinic. She worked at the highest level of nursing and nursing administration there and at the Pavillion at NWTH.
She married Bobby Thomas in 1981. She was an amazing mom as she poured out her unconditional love to her children, Chad, Trace and Teri. Patsy was a unique individual who had a very contagious smile. She provided everyone with the gift of friendship, love and support. Her positive outlook on life and the amazing strength she had shown has been an inspiration to many.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her best friend, once married and the father of her children, Bobby Thomas of Amarillo; two sons, Trace Thomas of Austin and Chad Thomas of Dallas; a daughter, Teri Payne and husband Drew and their children, Jocelyn and Madelyn Payne; her mother, Alice Rudd of Hereford; two sisters, Cheryle Willingham and husband Steve and Lynn Bell and husband Buddy; a brother, Kit Rudd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to the Patsy Thomas Nursing Scholarship Fund through the Amarillo College Foundation, P.O. Box 447, Amarillo, TX 79178.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
